Introductory story

2006.08.10 (Thu)

Where do we start this project?

The idea came up was to leave this country. We did not know what exactly was meant by tha idea. We just felt the life here didn't suit our life styles and obviously felt that we didn't fit in.

Back in 1994, I stood on the US soil for the first time. Since then, I frequently visited the US for unknown reasons. Sometimes, I taught Japanese to americans in local high schools and junior high schools. And sometimes I just spent three months staying one city pretending that I natively lived there. In 1998, I got a chance to study at the University of California at Davis. There I took some of the science classes. I kind of got a feeling that I could survive this competitive environment. At the time, I had a vague vision about my future career but didn't think about it much. Then I met this guy named Ben who's majoring in Computer Science. He was so talented and called a computer genious. I got lots of good influences by him and in the summer of 2000, I moved to Oregon and enrolled a Computer and Information Science major at the University of Oregon.

At the almost same time, she enrolled U of O. She was majoring in Journalism focusing on public relations. I don't know exactly how she got there but in the spring of 2001, we at last met each other.

In the winter of 2002, I graduated from U of O and got a job in California. It was a medical device testing facility. My work tasks are divided into two categories. One is to build company's computer network system; the other is to help the experiments such tasks as collecting data during the experiments, analyzing the data using statistical methods, and repoting the data to the study directors. Work itself was fine but I hated seeing doctors killing animals heartlessly. I made up my mind leaving the company. All the time I was in Cal., I hadn't seen her. I thought I was never going to see her again in my life.

In the spring of 2004, I quit the job and moved back to Japan. There I got the IT job. I remember it was June of 2004, I got the info from my old friends that she might be in Tokyo. I tried hundreds of ways to contact her and finally I found her. I called her up and set up the meeting. At last I saw her at some darky noodle place in Ginza area, Tokyo.

Since we got together again, we've been good friends and in the winter of 2006, we officially got together, which means we started living together.

Once we got together, things went so fast. I told her everything about my will to leave this country. She totally agreed with my idea. First we started with seeing one of the immigration consultant agencies in Tokyo. That did not help a bit because we know the info better than they do. We concluded that we should prepare for the immigration processes by ourselves. We searched internet where the ideal place to reside for good and found Australia the most prospective candidate. We finally started the preparation for the immigration process. And the story follows as time goes by...
